Values

What do we value?
We are committed to teaching people to fly and to making the experience fun, challenging, profitable, and safe for everyone - especially for our customers.

Safety

Is it safe?
Yes! Nothing is more important than your safety, so we subject our aircraft to a thorough preflight inspection, 100 hour inspections, and an annual inspection. Flight School Hawaii, Inc. dba Airframe & Powerplant Service is the only Authorized Cessna Service Station in Hawaii.

Also, our instructors are all experienced commercial pilots, FAA Certified Flight Instructors, qualified to teach you the right way the first time.

Commitment

What's involved in becoming a pilot?
More than anything, becoming a pilot takes commitment and diligence. Learning to fly safely is not easy. It's challenging, hard work.

But flying has its rewards. In the course of your flying career, you will enjoy sights largely unknown to the average person - - the cliffs of Lanai's South Shore, the Hamakua Coastline, the Na Pali Coast, and views of the Hana Highway (from a much more enjoyable perspective) are just a few of the perks.

You'll also experience the thrill of accomplishment when you, and you alone, are at the controls of the aircraft. And, when you finally hold in your hands the FAA pilot's certificate that you earned.

Insurance

What about insurance?
Flight School Hawaii, Inc. carries commercial insurance with a very reputable, U.S.-based carrier. Though it's not something most people think about, it makes all the difference...and we're not willing to put our customers or our staff at risk just to save a few dollars.

Costs and Rates

What does it cost to get a license?
On the average, you can expect to invest about $7,500 (C-172SP) for your private pilot certificate. If you were to calculate your costs based only on the minimum hours you will need, that cost is about $5,800. The actual cost depends on how much time you can commit to your training an on whether you can take advantage of discounts and training packages.

The actual cost of your flying depends on how far you intend to go. The first step is to work on your private pilot certificate. After that, you can choose to obtain additional "ratings." The current costs can by viewed by visiting our Rates Web Page.

  • Multi-Engine - you learn to fly larger aircraft with two or more engines.
  • Certified Flight Instructor - you learn to teach other how to fly.

Time

How long does it take?
You work at a pace that is comfortable for you. If you fly two to three times a week, you could get your private pilot license in 3 or 4 months. If you fly on an intensive schedule, 2 times a day, you can get it done even faster!

Intensive training schedules must be arranged in advance. For more information, call the pilot shop at (808) 837-7767.
